This gorgeous series of pregnancy silhouettes just goes to show that when it comes to maternity photography, sometimes the simplest shots are the most powerful ones.

With her third baby on the way, Australian mom Kirsty McKenzie, who blogs at The Mummysomniac, wanted to be sure to document each phase of what she says will be her last pregnancy. She immediately knew the perfect way to do it, inspired by images that a couple of friends had shared on Instagram during their own pregnancies.

“I loved them so much, and decided that if we ever had another baby, that I would do my version of the photos,” she says.
The results, which show a silhouette of Kirsty’s growing bump in profile against a stark white background, are simply stunning.
They are all just lovely, but I am especially crazy about the photos that include Kirsty’s two daughters. What a perfect memento of such a special time in their lives, those days before their family becomes truly complete.

I don’t have many pictures from my own pregnancies — a few shots taken at terrible angles, me half-grimacing in the pastel-hued, empire-waisted maternity blouse I immediately regretted buying. Safe to say those ones are not hung on the living room walls. Looking back, now that my babies are no longer babies, I wish I did have something more.

Not every expectant mom is comfortable baring her bump for intimate photos or boudoir-inspired shoots. As much as I love seeing those types of photos, I certainly wouldn’t have been comfortable posing for them. These pregnancy silhouettes are a little more subtle, but every bit as beautiful.

Thanks to Kirsty McKenzie, who is now 37 weeks and counting into her pregnancy, for sharing these shots with us. Be sure to visit her at The Mummysomniac, and follow her on Instagram and Facebook, to see more.
