Who had it harder?

There’s been a whole lot of discussion around this topic of late, apparently, I’ve unintentionally stirred the pot.

The older generations have told us to stop complaining, don’t bite off more than we can chew - we simply can’t have it all! No, my friends, we can’t have a career, a family, a nice home, a happy husband, and our sanity. WE MUST CHOOSE. We cannot expect our husbands to provide for the home AND help raise the children that they took part in creating.

We have to do it allLadies, we are asking too much! We merely need to tie up our aprons and head back to the kitchen like the dutiful wives and partners that we are. And if you are a stay at home mum, then you cease to exist. Stop with your complaining!!

But it’s not as simple as that is it?

It’s not about HARDER. It’s about DIFFERENT.

Our sense of community has goneWe absolutely have all of the modern conveniences that money can buy at our fingertips, but with that comes the incompressible amount of rules and guidelines in regards to raising our kids. Our sense of community has slowly slipped away over time, many of us relying solely on our ‘Village’ of two.

Our kids aren’t free to roam and play in the neighbourhood as even I was in the 90’s, because it’s simply not safe enough to do so. I mean, how many of your neighbours do you know?

And don’t even get even get me started on Pinterest. Designer lunchboxes? Whatever happened to a Vegemite sandwich?

Stop with the judgementSo let’s cut ourselves and each other some slack here.

This generation of ‘millennial parents’ are learning how to navigate this high-tech, and fast-paced world as we go. Take a chill pill.

And FFS Brenda, stop with the judgement.
